The criteria that really change the choice

Deliveroo's terms specify that a minimum order may apply and that various fees may be added. Uber Eats help states that delivery fees vary in particular according to the business, location, demand and courier availability, and that service fees vary in particular with the basket amount. At Uber Eats, the official referral programme adds a code after the referred person's first eligible order and states that it expires after three months, without establishing an amount valid throughout France here.

Comparing two genuinely identical baskets

Choose a restaurant available on both services and enter the same address. Add the same dishes, quantities and options. Make the comparison a few minutes apart, as availability and displayed fees may change with the time and area.

Before confirming, record for each app: item prices, delivery fees, service fees, any surcharge, applied discount and final total. If a product differs or is missing, the comparison is no longer strictly identical. Note that difference instead of drawing a conclusion based solely on price.

Availability and area

Deliveroo states that a minimum order may apply and that various fees may be added. For a small basket, compare the final total directly: a low item price may be offset by the fees shown before payment.

Cancellation

On Deliveroo, the terms distinguish in particular between the period before the partner accepts the order and the period afterwards. Uber Eats states that it only guarantees a refund if cancellation takes place before the business accepts the order. After acceptance, the app may no longer allow cancellation and the user is invited to contact the restaurant directly. Before ordering a meal that may need to be changed, open the help section and check what would be payable.

Subscription

Do not compare a basket with a subscription to one without a subscription without including the relevant cost. To assess whether it is worthwhile, add up the savings actually observed over several orders and compare them with the cost shown in your account. This article does not reproduce any fixed price.

Support and incidents

Check the process offered in the event of a missing item, delay or incorrect order before you have a problem. The quality of a remedy cannot be inferred from a single price. Keep the confirmation and photograph the contents received if a factual complaint is necessary.

A promotion may make a basket cheaper today without proving that a platform is permanently cheaper. First compare the total without a one-off benefit, then the total actually payable. This shows whether the choice depends on the offer or on the price level.

For Uber Eats referrals, the official source cited describes adding a code after a first eligible order and an expiry period of three months. It does not support a single nationwide amount. For Deliveroo, use only the offer displayed in the account and check its eligibility. Do not create a theoretical benefit that is absent from the process.

Common mistakes in comparisons

• Comparing two different restaurants or two different portion sizes.
• Looking only at delivery fees and ignoring the total.
• Applying a personal promotion to a user who is not eligible for it.
• Reusing the result from another town or another country.
• Ignoring the cost of a subscription that has already been paid for.
• Assuming that a delivery-time estimate is guaranteed.
• Confusing a cancelled order with a refund actually received.

Verification protocol after ordering

Keep the basket details, amount paid and confirmation time. On delivery, check the items and any changes. If a refund is requested, distinguish between the request being sent, its acceptance and the actual credit to the payment method.

For an ongoing comparison, repeat the test over several orders you would have placed anyway. Measure the total and the service received, without making additional purchases. If one of the services is unavailable for the same restaurant, the comparative price cannot be measured for that case.

Factual verdict

Choose the service offering the best total for your actual order, with an acceptable delivery time and acceptable conditions. A comparison made in another town or at another time is not evidence for your basket.
